Structural Myopia

Every image or sequence of images in a mediated art form can suggest a way of seeing and relating to the world. In many ways the experience of art is its ability to cling to the imagination and memory of a viewer despite a lack of specific reference for the audience. Whether it is a combination of formal compositional or visual elements, the handling of physical materials, or pure chance is hard to know. It is nearly always necessary for us to "see" or experience a phenomenon before it can be contemplated, interpreted, studied, and/or understood. Our human desire to create cosmologies fumbles around in this same darkness.

Electronic and technology-driven art seems to be a natural extension of our interaction with the commercial media culture. We perceive visual and audio stimuli constantly and subsequently our sanity and ability to function requires human beings to constantly raise their threshold of awareness. What is missed because of this endless stream of sound and vision? My work explores the processes of perception and how we give meaning and priority to those experiences. I also find the living presence and interplay of these pure visual and aural forms to be a powerful and seductive experience. It creates a dynamic space in and of itself without the necessity of reference to metaphor at all.
