Dribble

Dribble is a study of spatial sound behaviour during basketball game in sport hall focused on the ball sounds. It was inspired by basketball training in Domus Atletica, Oslo. Graphical and sound design is similar to real situation. Aim of the artwork is to interpret complete interactive experience of simple sounds behaviour in space.
Dribble is also experimental interface related to software for spatial sound composition under development - Soungarden. The interface was developed with intention to be completely intuitive and user friendly and can be operated by anyone with no experience. 16 jumping balls are located in the 3D virtual space. Visitor can change their positions in real time to setup his/her own spatial sound pattern.
The custom application based on DirecX, Direct3D and DirectSound runs on PC with 3D graphic accelerator and 3D gaming sound card (tested with Pentium IV 2.8 GHz, 512 MB RAM, GeForce4, Audigy2). System is connected to touch screen for easy manipulation and to 4 active speakers + subwoofer for spatial (quadrophonic) sonic experience. The room of installation should be square shape, approx. 5 x 5 meters. The sound isolation should be considered.
